If you've ever had a sheltie, you know that they are extremely hyperactive, and that is the case with my seven month old terror, Mitzvah.  Near the end of school, I began to ask my mother if I could have a new puppy to train, and her first answer was no.  She said that I wouldn't have time, but of course, I do, for its almost summer!  She also mentioned that it would effect my other dog, Bagel, and she would work differently for a while.  Well, since I got Mitzvah, Bagel has worked exactly the same, so apparently it didn't make a bit of difference.  Anyway, I started asking, and kept getting the same answer:  "I'll think about it."  Well, the same day I started asking, we were at an open house for a clinic, and we were doing an agility demonstration.  My mother's friend, Teresa, who works with sheltie rescue, had brought along some of the dogs.  One of them was a sheltie by the name of Sophie, and my mother actually considered it for a few days, but then found out that she had lameness problems, and that she was scared of everything and had some emotional issues.  A few days after that, my mother told me to turn on my computer, and log onto the internet, which I did, and she then showed me a picture of this cute, seven month old sheltie puppy, who had been a stray in Washington, Indiana.  The puppy was at a clinic somewhere in Indiana, I'm not sure where, and they were going to give her a hysterectomy.  Well, my mother thought that this dog, who's name was Dolly, would be perfect for us, so, since she is a vet, she offered to do the hysterectomy for free, and while doing so, see if she was right for us.  So, on Friday, my mother drove up to wherever it is that she was and brought her back to Carmel, Indiana, where we live.  She knew immediately that the puppy was perfect for us, and when I got home from school, they were waiting for me in the front yard.  Mitzvah, which means commandment, or good deed, in Hebrew, has been exactly what her name implies, a mitzvah and a blessing.  She is extremely fun to train, learns quickly, loves to play, and is a downright terror, which makes her even more special!
